Birthday Loot Bags and other stimulating stuff

I did some Christmas shopping tonight. I noticed a 50% off the lowest price sign in the window of Garage and I lucked out with 2 pairs of pants and 6 shirts for Taylor for a grand total of $50.34. Not bad. But Garage's clothes are made for the anorexic set I think. Taylor is a pretty skinny kid and she is in a medium there. She fits a size 0 pant at Old Navy but a 3 at Garage. Would it be so hard to have it so that the same person fits into the same size everywhere?

At Old Navy I got Liam 2 shirts, I think he will quite like this one. As I was waiting in line, the girl behind me said "You're missing the crown of of your claddagh." And in the 9 or so months since it myseteriously disappeared she is this first to have noticed. And so, what was wrong with the picture on Wordless Wednesday was the my crown is gone on my ring. I received that ring for Christmas just after I turned 15 and so I have had it for 19 years this year. I just can't not wear it. I feel naked without it. I'm slightly amazed that I still have it, I don't hold on to jewellery very well. It was lost once, during a mad makeout session when I was 15, but the mother of the fella found it a few weeks later under the sofa. Ah, those were the days.

Anyhoo...I think I've pretty much finished the girls. I would like to get Saoirse the game Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Sophie needs some clothes. Other than that they are pretty much done. Except for the electric car from Santa. And I tell you, Santa better get his butt in gear, there is only 2 more paycheques til Christmas. Tonight I picked up Sophie a Fisher Price nursery doll (I had that one in my hands, but changed it for a bald boy) and a FP musical teaset. She will love them both I think. I did not get them as many toys as in years past and I hope that I do not go crazy in December. But I probably will not have that chance as I have nothing for Liam but for the 2 shirts and some dominoes. He wants games for his Wii and some new controllers. Taylor wants a video ipod. They definitely get less as they get older, but the gifts are also way more expensive. Kids...they ain't so cheap.

When I came home I decided to do Saoirse's loot bags. Do you remember when loot bags consisted of cheap plastic toys and a lollipop? Not anymore. I have been buying since July and today I realized I didn't have as much as I thought. I mean, they are pretty good but they aren't filled with Old Navy pajamas and Disney store socks and a pair of shoes (that's what Sophie got in a loot bag at my friend's sons birthday. Saoirse didn't get the shoes, but she did get the jammies and socks.) I did get some little Ariel dolls for really cheap at the Disney store, along with Thumper and the heffalump from Winnie the Pooh. For the boys I have the large stuffed Buzz Lightyears...they were on sale for $2.49! Anyway, I am not sure why we spend so much on loot bags these days. When Liam and Taylor were getting older I managed to get away with just a burned CD of favourite songs. Cheap at less than $1 each. And the kids loved them. I'll do that next year I think for Saoirse, just of Disney songs and whatnot.

Her birthday party is this Sunday. Hard to believe Christmas will be in exactly one month. We don't have snow yet and at just around freezing it isn't even that cold and my tree's not going up until mid December so I am not feeling very Christmasy. Maybe I should grab the Christmas CDs tomorrow. I'm a bit annoyed that the schedulr for Christmas week isn't up at work yet. I really want to know if I am going to be working. And if I am? Prepare for me to be quite miserable. I so do not want to work. It pisses me off that people who don't even celebrate Christmas have asked for the day off and they will get it over me because of their seniority. Blech.

What a crappy post. It would be one I wouldn't bother if it weren't for NaBloPoMo. I'm quite in shock I've made it everyday thus far.

When I read the first part and before I 'clicked' I thought you had bought the kids their presents from the little kiosk of a gas station (garage). Good for you on the pressies front!
Hungry Hippos drives me mad with the little balls that inevitably get lost.....
Laughed at your losing the ring at 15 and the way you got it back!!
I know what you mean about loot bags/party bags. Sometimes I think they are more of a way to out do other parents than the party itself. I will try the Cd burning - sounds good. Also saw a good one - you know how you'd get gold fish in the bags you could win at a fair? Get a plastic bag and put in jelly candies in shape of fish, then fill with blue jello and leave to set. So you hand over the bag with edible 'fish & water' Sounds cute but haven't actually done it.
You are doing great with the daily posts BTW!!

Sounds like you got some real bargains. I agree why can't clothes e the same size everywhere - boys clothes seem to be. Of course I am much more inclined to buy clothes in shops where I am a 8 rather than a 10 or 12!
The loot bags sound like they have gone up in the world since I was a child. I love the fish in a bag suggestion.
Only 5 days left, we are nearly there on Nablopomo!

Call me old and/or traditional but I think the birthday kid gets the gifts. Period.

We always had a couple moms who would go to extreme's with the loot bags but I know which loot my kids played with more....the dollar store loot bags! Why? My theory was kids were and are handed so much...big stuff...they are plain bored with it. The little fun things are so much cooler to them. Well that's my theory. What the hell do I know.

There is nothing that could fit me at The Garage... I hate that store... I agree with you, their sizes are screwy... It's for anorexic teens...

Have a great day!!! :)

I can't beleive those loot bags! Loot bags from me? Candy and cheap toys thats it! Kids here and back in Oregon were perfectly happy with it.

That is the same doll that came with the set I got Lila for Christmas, except the set was twins, so there are two dolls and it comes with a stroller/pack n play/swing thingy...$30.00..couldn't pass that up. They are so cute!

Oh, and about this goody bag business...I think it's nuts. When I was a kid if I was going to a party I brought the present....I didn't expect anything in return. I got the loot when my own birthday came around. Now it's different. We didn't have kids at Lila's birthday last year, except for family, and next year I know I'll be expected to do the loot bags. I'll be hitting the Dollar Tree for that one though. Books, play doh, stuff like that...if they don't like it they can suck it.

Yeah it's still dollar store stuff in our loot bags over here. Actually, if we have a more expensive party (ie Lazer tag) I hardly bother with loot bags. They got some little choc bars and that's it. And I don't care if people think I'm cheap!! I say we all rebel and quit it with the stupid gift bags anyway.

Hmmm - Maybe I shouldn't have commented when I'm feeling cranky. ;)

Oh Dear God, don't get me started on the whole loot bag thing... I generally go for between $5-$10/bag (better friends often get better loot - cuz I'm a bitch like that). But someone just yesterday told me she thinks you should spead $15/bag! THAT'S INSANE!!!! And that you've received PJ's and SOCKS??? That's nuts. Just nuts.

I'm proud of your daily posting. You've really been on top of it. But, that darn tree keeps making me mad.

I think the loot bag thing is crazy. Not only is there the cost involved, there is all the extra work involved in doing the shopping and putting it in bags. I hate doing those things. My kids don't have parties anymore, so I don't have to worry about it.

yup i would say screw you guys, why should you shell out 5-15$ a kid when it's your kids birthday? and i'd rather NOT have crappy chinese painted lead infested toys enter my household personally. i must say again, i dont have kids, but i think it's ridiculous. let someone else spend all that money on stuff to send home. i agree they are trying to prove that they have money or "something" or that they are better than anyone else. i would refuse to compete. somewhere around a year ago i saw a website dedicated to saying "no" to goody bags and all their pre-made glory. sheesh. i say forget it. if you REALLY want, make the cds, but jeez! I wouldnt be able to afford to have my kid (if i had one) have more than one friend over for that much! yikes!
