Resolutions

Every year I make the same New Years resolutions...lose weight (yeah, not so much), stop yelling at my kids (like last year by this time, already broken), become more organized (again, not so much), so on and so on.

I want all those same things this year, and I may actually work towards them. Today in the lose weight category I bought a yoga ball. God knows I watch enough TV and spend enough time on the computer just sitting on my ass. Now I will use the ball, which will not only aide in weight loss but will also be great for my back. Of course I have to find the pump to blow the ball up, so really it could be next January before it gets used.

One thing I meant to do last year was keep a list on my sidebar of all the books I had read in 2007. I didn't get around to doing it but plan on doing so this year. Any other readers interested in keeping track with me? I hope to read a book week for a total of 52. (Math skills and can read? I'm a keeper, I think.) I used to read 2-3 a week before I discovered blogging, so I'm thinking one is attainable. If there is interest in doing this I will keep a list of participants in the sidebar. I should look into a button maybe. Even if it's just me, myself and I doing this.

I also want to focus on being more positive. I tend to take note of what I don't have that other people do and I really must stop this. Focus on the positive, Emma. I may not have my dream home with a bedroom for each child, but I do have a nice 4 bedroom home and its smallness should make it easy to clean. Should. One day that will say "Its smallness makes it easy to keep clean." I may not have a lot of extra money, but I also have no debt and therefore have more available money than some of my friends who have double the income. My children may not wear $500 ski jackets (seriously, what the?) but they are fairly well dressed. Taylor does well in school (do not focus on the messy bedroom!), Liam is well liked, Saoirse is the sweetest, funniest 3 year old I know, at almost 17 months Sophie is talking in sentences (and has the temper of a tempermental 2 year old.) My kids are good. William and I are going to be going to counselling, we are going to work hard at our relatiosnhip. We are worth it. Our kids are worth it.

I'll let you know how it went on January 1, 2009.

I don't make resolutions because I can't remember what they were a few weeks after making them. I hope this year is way better and you accomplish some of the things you have chosen to work on. On the positive side, you could make a list of things you do get done, like your book list but for other things. I think you probably get some things cleaned or organized and a month or so later the kids have dumped the baskets and you forget it was ever organized to begin with. Or at least, that is what happens to me. See you soon.

Just catching up on your news. I'm so pleased you and William are going to counselling and I hope you mange to sort everything out. I never make resolutions because I would only make unrealistic ones!

I hope everything goes well for you this year - good luck.
I've created a whole knew blog to keep track of the books I read so I'll be looking out for good recommendations from you and if you make a button (how???) I'll borrow it:)
Have a great year.

$500 for a ski jacket? Does it also double as a bullet proof vest or something?

Good luck to you and your William in the new year!

Happy New Year, I hope all goes well with counseling. Most men won't even GO to start with, so I think you've got a head start already.
Seriously? I wouldn't pay $500.00 for a ski jacket for MYSELF, nevermind a CHILD who will grow out of it in a year.

I predict a great year for you Emma!!! You deserve it!

I love to read, but with the kids, the hubby, the house, the job and all that, the only time I can is when I am, uh, in the bathroom, lol.

good luck with everything, sweet Emma!

You've hit it on the head of why I don't make resolutions either. And a book a week? Dear God, that seems totally unattainable to me. I used to read at least 2 a week, but that was pre-hubby and child. Now, I'm lucky if it's one a month. Which is really pathetic. But someday, when I'm a widow with grown children, I will read again, damn it.

i always had those resolutions (organization aside, i am over organized) but that was never enough to motivate me change... So this year, I resolve to be more self disciplined. Hopefully that is enough to help with all of them, and yet easy enough to baby step...

I love the idea of your book list! I tried listing the books I intended to read last year but I kept getting sidetracked by other books...lol.

Great luck with all of your endeavors and keep focusing on the positives. I think that's the key to it all.

I would only be setting myself up to fail if I made NY resolutions!

I'm glad you are looking at the positives. Sometimes that is the hardest part. Good luck. I'm with you on the books. I can't get my face unglued from the blogs to sit & read.

I'm so glad you wrote 'William and I are going to be going to counselling, we are going to work hard at our relatiosnhip. We are worth it. Our kids are worth it.' It's true...and YOU my dear are also worth it.
I would be interested in joining the book club of sorts! I think it would be a great way to get some book recommendations as well, no? The only thing is that I don't think I can do a book a week...two a month is a number I'd be very pleased with....does it matter? I kept a list of the books I read last year but stopped updating a few months ago!

It helps to count the blessings, eh;). You've got a good heart Emma and you love your family (it shows). I'm wishing you the best 2008 can offer you! xo

Sounds like excellent things to focus on in the coming year. Sometimes if the things aren't huge we tend to overlook them, but I prefer the smaller things myself.

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction - Best wishes on doing all you have set out to do,

Yeah. Resolutions suck. I liked that you focused on the positive. Just as it's important to set goals it's important to acknowedge what we've already accomplished.

I'm with you on the losing weight and less kid yelling. I've GOT to do both.
