The host for today's Fun Monday is Ann from For the Long Run, who just happens to live in my dream country. You know if the prices were at all reasonable. But since buying a house in Ireland is even more unrealistic than buying one in Canada, I will just have to live vicariously through bloggers in Ireland.
Anyway, Ann's challenge is this:
"For today's Fun Monday, I want to hear about a web site that's changed your life. A web site that you can't live without. A web site whose inventor you'd like to see win a McArthur Genius Grant. A lot of people have said that they didn't think they could narrow it down to one, and that's okay. A top-5 list or a top-3 list is completely acceptable."
I am not sure that I could say that any website has changed my life (though Ann's chosen website may quickly become a firm favourite) but I definitely have ones that I like to look at daily.
First off, there is the For Better or For Worse website, which is the home of my all time favourite comic strip. This comic is almost 30 years old, and unlike most strips, the characters have aged. It is loosely based on the author, Lynn Johnston's, real life. I once went to a show she did, and she was just amazing. Afterwards she did a book signing and when I met her I told her that many times she had saved my sanity when I was sometimes willing to swing for my children. It was good for me to know that even comic strip characters sometimes yell at their kids, and feel guilty about it, as you can see on the strip here, which I think was originally from 1979.
Since becoming a Stampin' Up demonstrator I have been a frequent visitor to the Stampin' Up website. As a demonstrator, I have access to more designs and templates than what you see on the regular site, so I am enjoying that. And for you crafty people in England, Stampin' Up has finally made its way to you. Take advantage I say. I also like Splitcoast Stampers. The link will lead you to where I copied the layout for one of the Christmas cards I did this year. I used different colours and no ribbon, but the basic layout was the same. As I have said before, I have no imagination, but I copy fairly well. Unfortunately I took no pictures of my final product, which annoys me and my cards made file folder to no end.
And finally, there is Facebook. Oh, how I love facebook. A few of William's family members in Australia have finally joined up so it is a great way to let them see photos of the kids. I have discovered that I suck at Scrabulous, much like I suck at Scrabble in real life. I have found friends from elementary, junior high and high school, old work mates, and have connected with bloggers outside of the blogosphere. I even have a few enemies on my friends list. Yes, I love facebook.
Oh, and all you people? The ones listed on my sidebar and the ones I keep meaning to list on my sidebar? If I had to choose, your blogs are the sites I couldn't live without.

I guess I need to find out why people like FACEBOOK. I've ignored it - because my tank is full... or maybe my tank is empty. Either way, I just didn't want to take on something new.
Better/Worse has been one of my favorite comic strips for the long haul, too.
I've always loved For Better For Worse too.
I've always loved that comic also! Same reason partially.
I've seen stampin up but I don't really do a lot of stamping in my scrapbooking but I keep saying I'm going to start getting some and do more of it.
I like facebook but I haven't been able to find many people on it outside of my blog friends that have it also and maybe 1 from outside the web. It's kind of fun though definetly something I can end up waisting a lot of time on!
LOVE For Better or For Worse!!! She started 30 years ago? Good grief I've probably been reading her from the beginning then *gulp*. And I'm going to have to check out Splitcoast Stampers.
Well, in my opinion, being able to read your favorite comic online is definitely a change in your life.
Happy Fun Monday.
i don't have kids, but i love for better or for worse anyway, for the very reasons you give--it's just so real. and yet funny at the same time.
i've not dipped a toe into facebook, but my sister-in-law uses it to keep in touch with her daughter at college.
Never heard of For Better For Worse before.
I haven't got into facebook. People keep leaving me messages but I've forgotten my password!
I was completely obsessed with Facebook when I first joined but I've got a bit tired of it now, too much stuff all the time I prefer blogs :)
FBOFW is my fave too! Can't go a day without checking it...
And Facebook is my new virtual home.
Have a great day Emma!
You really stamped your mark on this subject!
Stamping away eh? Loved the cartoon!
Great choice! I love fbofw...and my baby is 30 so I should probably write Lynn a thank you note for saving her life!
You added enemies to your friends list? Ummm.....???
And, you aren't a transplanted Brit. You consider yourself Irish, so I do, too!
So how do you get into doing all the challenges for your blog? I'd like to blog more but have my best ideas when I'm falling asleep and then forget them when I actually have time to blog which is rare.
Anyway still waiting to hear what it is you say when you get shit about the house...do tell please?
Love the cartoon, for some odd reason I started reading that strip in high school ?!
I haven't done myspace or facebook, doubt I will, just another thing to make me sit at the computer (I have a hard enough time with all the blogs!)
Lisa
My daughter has a facebook, but I had never thought about it for myself. I thought it was for kids in high school and college. Who knew?
Enjoyed your post. I have always liked that comic strip. Hope you have a wonderful day!
I LOVE For Better or Worse!!!!!!! I have one of her books and it's hilarious!
My post is about a comic strip also. It's called Clear Blue Water. I am a stamper myself. It is terribly addictive!! Great Post!!
Those are some cool sites.. I have a facebook but don't use it much.. never sure what to do on it but then again its hard to get me out of flickr... lol
Great post. :) I have to dream about owning a house here too.
I had NO IDEA that "For Better or For Worse" was even still around - I LOVE that cartoon...thanks for letting us know about it!
i am a scrabble HOUND. would that make me a friend or foe?
:-)
The comic strip is great. I don't really know anything about Facebook, except what I read, and I suppose I have been curious but never dipped my toe in the water! I'm glad to be on your sidebar.
We have so little in common. But I still love you.
I like For Better or For Worse. Our oldest daughter was born shortly after April, so it is neat to read what she is doing in comparison.
I have always read this strip, I am afraid I relate more toward the Far Side and Calvin & Hobbs, but Better or Worse always makes me chuckle. funny. NLM
I LOVE For Better or Worse! I never thought to look for them on the Web, DUH!
OMF you crack me up. The blogs you list and mean to list. Me too me too!
My fave strip is also for better or worse. ADORE it.
