I'm in the bathroom, scrubbing the sink. Saoirse comes and stands in the doorway.
Saoirse: Yous got a really big bum.
Me: What was that? (I'm giving her a chance to quickly correct herself. I know she's only 3, but surely she understands that this is a massive faux pas.)
Saoirse: Yous got a really big bum.
Me: Oh, really? (Honestly, I'm just setting myself up for punishment.)
Saoirse: Yeah, you does. But mine isn't big. I just have a little bum.
Sign number two that I must seriously lose weight.
Thanks Saoirse.
Love you.
And your little bum.
And I even love your big mouth.

Oh. The things they say. Gah.
Ha. I am always telling the boy child how it's not fair that he has no butt at all and I'm stuck with Baby Got Back. He really has NO butt...pants don't even stay up.
Children just don't have a brain to mouth filter yet, do they!
PERFECT post!
Mouse once grabbed my legs and shook them and said in a sweet voice 'I love your jiggly legs Mama'.
It's a good thing they make us laugh, huh?
Lani has started patting my belly and saying baby! WAH!! Sad when a 19 month old knows that I look prego when I am not:(
Just keep telling yourself...things look bigger to small eyes.
I wish I had a lil one telling me I had a big bum as opposed to being told I have a squooshy belly. NOT to be confused with squishy, or squashy. My middle boy said it is squooshy, and it is sad that he is right.
at least you can laugh at it!
Punkin tells me that I have a big butt, too, but that he likes it that way. I'm sure Saorise likes yours too!
And I also get told I have a squishy belly and that is why he likes snuggling with me as opposed to Nanny who he says is hard. So that extra padding? Not always a bad thing!
Somehow, coming from them it doesn't hurt so bad. Probably because they are so darn cute and have the cutest little bums to pinch.
Out of the mouths of babes!!
lol
Lol, you can always trust a small child to say it as they see it!
OK I'm laughing but only because that's too funny not to!! Seriously, where do kids get this LOL And I'm sure if she could explain, it was totally innocent because she's so tiny and everyone else in the world looks so big to her. As for the big mouth? Ok I'm laughing again!!
That's just how they see it~ so funny!
My son bumped into my butt one day by accident (yes it's big enough to be in the way) and said, "wow, your bum is really squishy!".
Well, I would say it's time to teach her that a white lie is not the same as lying. And that she should tell you that you are the hottest mama in the world, no matter what.
I think any parenting book would agree with me.
o-u-c-h. ouch ouch ouch.
That child is cruel and inhumane and so lucky she's loved by many lest we go ahead and hang her by her toes.
Although I will tend to think she was merely observing how grown ups are larger and kids are littler not that you have a supremely large ass (like myself) but instead you have an ass which is larger than her own which is impossibly small and it's amazing to someone small enough to be squished by my large butt if she doesn't hush it. ;)
Too funny... kids say the darndest things!!
I remember a couple of years ago when Madison was arguing with me that she just knew I was pregnant because I had a fat belly...kids they can be cruel can't they?
Kids say the funniest things sometimes :-)
Have you seen that commercial where the lady is bending over, in a red robe, nothing but a red covered bum in your face and the child comes into the room and says, "Santa!" . .she begins to diet. :) It cracks me up. :)
Emma: "Mommy, you have a really big tummy... just like Michael!"
Thanks.
The truth does hurt sometimes...lol. You should definitely save this story for when she's older...maybe for a time when her own bum isn't too small :). I'll never forget my brother telling my mom not to sing in church b/c she sounded like PeeWee Herman, lol.
Kids say the darndest things, don't they - but so cute too!
Hey - where are you? Just checking in since I haven't seen a post on my feed read for a while now;).
too funny.
