I don't like heat. Have I mentioned that in the midst of summer when +30 is creeping up and my house feels like a sauna? Heat and I? We aren't good friends. I should say weren't, because never before have I prayed for a summmer day like I did today.
Do you know what the temperature was in Edmonton with the wind chill? -46!!! That's -50.8 for those of you south of the border. Which, if you've not yet experienced it, is freaking cold!
And with these extreme temperatures, that we have not seen for a good few years, came blowing snow. The roads were horrid when William took me to work yesterday. We saw 2 accidents at 2 different entrances to the mall, one involving 4 cars. It annoys me immensely that people seem to forget that they live in a city where it snows 5 months of the year and they don't adpat to winter conditions. Honestly. Some fecker changed lanes right in front of us without signalling, right at the sight of one of the accidents. Dumb ass. Did he not wonder how this accident may have been caused? Probably some eejit who didn't signal!
On the way home at 10.30 I said that if the roads are as bad in the morning I wouldn't send Liam to school, knowing that his bus would probably be over an hour late. I looked out my window this morning, which was totally frosted over on the inside and saw he wouldn't even be able to open the gate.
So I called his school and told him he could stay in bed. About 15 minutes later his driver called and said that she wouldn't be picking him up, there was no heat in the bus. That would have been a mighty cold 45 minutes had she driven today. The roads are supposed to be worse tomorrow, and it's still going to be cold. Taylor is trying to get out of school, but I am not as kind to her. Currently, she has perfect attendance and I would like her to maintain that. Her teacher informed them that if it hits -50 with the wind chill they cancel school. So really, she only has another 4 degrees to go.
I don't want 4 kids home tomorrow, I got almost nothing done today, so I am hoping for warmer weather.
Especially because tomorrow is my girls night out. And we're going to Moxies, which just happens to be my favourite restaurant.

Frequently the reason behind the desire to write this type of paper remains unclear. However, once the events are recounted and recorded, it becomes clear that the writer is striving to find the universal truth.

I can't even comprehend how cold that is. We get a frost here and we think it's cold.
Yikes! I thought we had it bad! Not so much:( Stay warm today.
Oy. You win... Edmonton is officially colder than Toronto.
Oh, how I long to live in Victoria. Or the Bahamas.
Oh my goodness I couldn't stand that. It was -10 when we skied and I nearly died!
Holy crap! The coldest weather I've ever experienced was -10 wind chill, and I thought the world was coming to an end. That is just not right. I'm cold just thinking about where you are!
Dude. THAT is cold. I've experienced down to -20 around here, but OH MY GAWD. -50 scares me. I would not leave the house. Maybe for a month.
OH, MY GOD! You have my sympathy, empathy, and if you need it, I will ship blankets!
That is really cold...and I don't do cold! It must be mighty pretty though unlike here in Ontario where there is just a bit of dirty snow and everything is mucky and gross.
Oh wow...
If I ever come to Edmonton to visit you, I'll do it in May, when it's not -46 and when it's not 30 degrees. Because I don't like extremes either. Like Alyssa, I should just move to Victoria. Maybe the three of us can just retire there, a la Golden Girls?
I went outside today. I plan on staying in until sometime in the spring or when my kids drive me so crazy I make them go to school no matter how cold it is, whichever comes first.
I am thinking they will probably go to school tomorrow.
Oh, my GOD!! Dayum. I would literally move if such a thing happened. We moved to Philly for a month...it hit negative 15 and my mother and I told dad there'd be a divorce if we didn't head home. I cannot fathom that cold.
holy crap!!!
that's colder than a witch's tit!!!
I am feeling girl.
We had some -20 or 30's while I was in Mass. (in the morning), but never anything that cold. On those days I wore my thermal underwear to work, as I had a bit of a walk to get to my building.
We have a similar problem here when it rains. It's like slow the hell down people! But of course no one does.
Dumb asses.
And I was complaining about it being 4 here! I guess it could be a lot worse for me couldn't it?
Thank you so much for including the temp. for those of us that aren't good w/ the Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion :). I have never in my life experienced temps any lower than around 15 degrees F...and that's a rare thing around here. I don't know how people live in the temps you speak of...I guess you just adapt.
Okay, trying this comment thing again.
Thanks for coming by my blog. So, you have wonderful inlaws, too? ;)
