Toopy and Binoo

Saoirse's current favourite show is Toopy and Binoo. It comes on in little 5 minute pieces at the end of shows, and also in its own half hour slot. Everyday I watch Toopy and Binoo. Well, I don't watch it. I blog clean like a mad woman. Last weekend Toopy and Binoo made a stop in Edmonton on their cross Canada tour. Saoirse was very excited to go and visit them. I forgot two important things though. First I forgot my camera. I realized this at the gas station and William said "We aren't going back for it." Damn it, thinks me, there goes my next blog post. Second, I forgot to tell Saoirse that Toopy and Binoo are not going to be the smaller than her. In fact, they are going to be pretty big. Must remember to tell Saoirse these sorts of things.

We get to Londonderry Mall, which is way on the other side of the city, at 11.30 and the show is at 1.00. We are among the first there. In about 10 minutes the show area is packed. We were sitting on the floor and my back was killing me and both legs fell asleep. Much fun. I really thought Sophie would be awful, she is such a handful, but she was fantastic. They had two TVs set up and when 4 Square came on she about went crazy. Pointing and dancing, she was so adorable. I really wish I had had the camera to video her. 4 Square is this weird show where they all wear matching coloured outfits in the most atrocious shades and sing and dance and whatnot. I'm pretty sure Sophie's first sentence is going to be "Do what the doo-whahs do!"

When Toopy and Binoo came out Saoirse had a tiny meltdown and hid in William's arms asking to go home. Sophie stood up, pointed and oohed and aahed at them. They put on a pretty good performance about a magic show and Saoirse ended up really enjoying it. When it was all over it took me a good 5 minutes to stand up. I am so freaking old before my time it is not even funny.

If Toopy and Binoo happens to land in your city I highly recommend you go. With your kids of course. It'd be a bit weird if you went on your own. And if you don't have Toopy and Binoo in your neck of the woods I suggest that you call your local kids station and ask what's up with that. Seriously, how many versions of Sesame Street can one station show? I count 3 on PBS. Or you could always order the DVDs. Or ask your friendly Canadian to burn the ones her daughter is going to get for Christmas.

Until Charlotte could talk, I used to call her Binoo and her older brother Toopy (because that boy can talk!). She loves 4 Square and even does the four fingered salute (that doesn't sound good, does it?) at the TV. They were at the mall here in Calgary yesterday but my kids have no patience for waiting...and it was crazy packed with people!

I haven't seen this show, but my youngest has recently "graduated" to older shows. When my son was tiny we went to a mall to see Bear in the Big Blue House. I still remember how impressed he was. :) Thanks for the memory!

That is so funny. I haven't heard of either show. My kids are quite beyond that stage, so I am feeling quite old reading your post, and quite sympathetic to you plight on the floor. Sounds like a fun time was had by all (in the end), except you didn't have your camera.

I hadn't heard of this show before about a month ago, but they came to the city I live in and friends filled me in. I didn't realize the live show was that great or else we would have attempted to go...too bad.

I have never heard of this show. I'm thinking it definitely isn't played here. There are SO MANY shows for kids these days..it's crazy.

Wow. Why did I think Barney was still in? Oh that's right. Because I'm OLDER than everyone! Glad the kids had a good time. Sorry you're feeling old...I mean...sorry you're hurting. Hopefully the ladies getaway will help :o)

Haven't heard of Toopy and Binoo here either. I'm not sure if my kids are to old for it though. Sounds like the girls had a fun time. Too bad you didn't have your camera that would have been cute if you could have uploaded a video of Saoirse dancing!

One of my sisters gave Little Man a DVD of the show, but we've yet to pop it in, because the only DVD he'll ask for these days is Finding Nemo. At this point, I would kill for any other movie, because I can literally recite it word for word. Maybe I'll "accidentally" put it that DVD.

Glad my toddler isn't the only one that freaks out at giant characters though!

I've never heard of the shows either but that's because we just get "farm" tv out here.

I've never heard of them...but that doesn't mean much. It sounds like the girls had fun.

I think sitting on the floor for that long would get to anyone. Maybe I am just being optimistic because I know it would kill me.

I've never heard of that show before either. I'm glad that Saoirse ended up having a good time.

my boys both L-O-V-E Toopy and Binoo! i wonder if they are coming to Ottawa...or maybe they've already been.

Thomas the Tank Engine was here a few months ago, but we were a little worried the boys would get scared...they were 1 and 2 years old at the time!

I cant believe how many people with toddlers dont know who Toopy and Binoo are. Well it is my 2 1/2 year old daughters favorite show, and yes we went to the mall to see them. I live in Whitby Ontario. Funny story...Christmas morning my daughter opened up her new Toopy and Binoo Dvd and insisted on watching it, we tried to get her to open more presents..it was a no go. It was the only gift she opened up Christmas morning until the inlaws came in the afternoon and finally we got her to open more. Who knew..Christmas could have been a lot cheaper this year if one Dvd was good enough for her :).
