The great mofo delurk

The Great Mofo Delurk 2007 It's Wednesday October 3 and you know what that means don't you? It means that if you see this funky little button in any of a dozen or so (9 actually) colours you are meant to comment. So comment away. I've had a a few new commentors over the last 2 days, which quite thrilled me. Nice to meet you, new commentors.

I was going to tell you all about my fall TV lineup (which would have let you all know I watch way too much TV), an idea I borrowed from the very lovely (and fellow facebooker) Chas but then I uploaded pictures last night so I thought why not enlighten you all with visuals of the messy bedrooms? Following in the footsteps of the fabulous (and fellow facebooker) M, I shall also post pictures of my house, as it is. But not in this post. Because we are off to the orthodontist shortly and I need to shower.

The girls...I had to put this one in, because they are just so freaking cute. Sophie is eating cookie dough. I know, I know...don't even go there. Liam gave it to her. And you know what people? We all survived. Don't even try and tell me you never ate cookie dough as a kid (or as an adult, when it comes right down to it.) See Saoirse's bandaid there? She's had it on for about 6 days. I'm not allowed to take it off and when we wash her face we are told not to get her bandaid wet. It's Spiderman. There were no princesses so Spiderman was chosen over Nemo, Hello Kitty, Shrek and assorted other $4.29 for 20 cartoon banadaids.

The floor of Taylor's bedroom closet. Clothes on the floor, shoe rack practically empty because shoes are all over the place.

Her bookcase, the only area that is somewhat clean. Note though the tiny white container on the third shelf. This was full of caramel (for aplle dipping) at one time, I found three of them in her room and when I bought them, only last Friday, she was told that they were for school only.

The view from her door. Yeah. Nuff said? She called me a few minutes later to tell me that she had forgotten her flute, which is in the black case by the side of her bed. Not only had she forgotten her flute, she had also forgotten her lunch and her gym uniform. Seriously the kid? Not so together. The thing that bugs me about Taylor is when William did her floor, not quite a month ago, I told her that our plan was to buy her all new furniture...a double bed, a night table, a desk, a bookcase, a dresser and a TV stand but that she would have to, have to keep her room clean. Since the only thing she has done in the past month is sort her books (alphabetically of course) I can't see new furniture being a part of her near future.

Liam's closet. Funnily enough, he had told me that he had put away his laundry and when I went to look it was all on the closet floor. This is a kid who can't even put boxers and socks into his drawers.

The view from Liam's door. Note the lack of a sheet, he claims he doesn't know how to put them on. Seriously. And all that stuff on the e? The dish? The little lego pieces? He can sleep with those on his bed. I don't know how. I did make his bed yesterday in a fit of "you disgust me" rage. When I found DVDs under the mattress is when I took them all away. He's home today, so is curretnly cleaning. I will take pictures of his idea of clean.

I'm here - commenting, but that shouldn't be a huge surprise.

I thought the first couple of pictures weren't bad but then....children eh? where would we be without them...in a clean and tidy house...maybe...but we love them anyway!

Oh hello, I'm a terrible lurker here. I must say thank you for showing these pictures because I thought I was the only one whose kids put everything in their beds! If ever the day comes that I don't find one of my kids sleeping on a pile of books, I will probably die from shock.

When my son was about three, I went in his room to check on him during a nap and he was sleeping atop an entire pile of pennies. They were stuck all over his sweaty little legs.

Kids are strange people. :)

So the only reason I hadn't commented yet is because google hadn't told me you'd posted! Hello hello my darling lovah foo!

I love you for posting your house! WEEE!

Cod I love your kidfolk. And the SPIDERMAN? Slays me. Those girls really are beautiful.

And the other kids rooms? I giggled. A lot. Cod you'd die to see my room as a child!

Okay, not really. But I mean to!

Delurking to say hello. Hello!

Your girls are gorgeous!

Our house is actually in a similar state to your children's bedrooms at the moment as all our things arrived today but we have no dresses/storage things yet to put them in - so they are lying on the floor - it is driving me crazy.

Love the idea of the TV lineup I may steal that.

Are you trying to shame them into work .. I don't think it works. Eldest is 15 and still can't get him to put away his cloths.

You better lock the girls up. Cause you're gonna need the NRA to protect them later in life. Too sweet.

I thought my bedroom was messy, but I think Liam & Taylor have me beat.

I love the first photo they are so cute. As I've had kids and grandkids the other photos come as no surprise!!

Cookie dough is still the best (in my book anyway).

My son cleaned his room on Saturday (with his dad's help). It was so beautiful - and then the next morning I walked in there and it didn't look like it had ever been clean.

Hi Emma. Not delurking but saying Hi anyhow.

Is that what I have to look forward to? Teenager rooms?

I guess I should just lurk today instead of commenting since I comment a lot.

Cute pictures of the girls!!

I agree with tiger lamb...should us normal commenters lurk today instead? lol
Your kids rooms remind me of my kids rooms. I did take pictures to post for M's challenge also and should get them up this week. My boys never have sheets on their beds either. Not because they don't know how to put them on they just take them off sleeping (I have no idea) and never put them back on and I have given up puting them back on!

My future daughter in law is quite a looker! We are going to have pretty grandkids!

I'm no lurker, but I can be if you want me, too. Then I could delurk and feel all special!

And that four way? It is SO on!

OK, so whip those kids into shape and show up the after pictures! Haha

When I met hubby his flat also had a badly fitting sheet. He seemed unable to fit it. Ever. He was quite a slob (I blame his mother as she LET him get away with it). Good for you taking yours to task!!
In fact hubby then often had to take a day off work just to clean his messy flat - that was tiny - before I visited!!!

Delurking... and my kids rooms were always like that! Sometimes they would stuff things under other things when they "cleaned".. I swear they had to work harder doing that than it would have been to put them away!!!

Anonymous said...

Delurking to say Hello also!
Hello!

I am always here...just a BAD commenter!! Smacking myself!! *Oh and look at all those exclamation points*

My kids rooms will NEVER be that messy...my hubby is OCD to the max and would just clean it for them! Good lesson huh? He can't help himself!!

OMG!!! Taylor's room looks exactly like mine did when I way 13. Okay, when I was 20. Ugh, fine. 25. Till I moved out. And married a clean freak. And we all know how freakin well that's turning out.

My room was way worse than that when I was 13...it was pretty bad.

I told the boys that if they didn't keep their rooms clean, I'll take pics and upload it on my blog for the world to see ;-) Somehow it works, though they have help from my helper.
Guess they know mommy means business with that letter, eh?

Those kids are gorgeous. I see your angst at the bedrooms. I must say, that before you come to my house, I will get the girls to clean their room so it is at least as neat as the two you featured. Actually, I read them your letter last night, then today, told them it was actually a call for help on my part, and not a funny anecdote I thought they would enjoy. They spent some good time on it, but tomorrow they are working in the afternoon, so it is downhill again.

I hope they get their rooms done in time.

I ALWAYS lurk! There are only a handful of blogs I comment on and I know it's a huge no no. I'm not going to stop lurking of course, but I know it's a huge no no.

As for the messes. I was really lucky to only have one child who refused to clean her room. Gregg would come home from out of town and they would have screaming matches over it. Me? I just told her I wanted her door left closed so I didn't have to look at it. With Gregg gone so much I had to pick the things I wanted to battle over or I would have been battling all the time.

Hi Emma,

I'm sorry forgot to comment yesterday. Ack!

That's my kids room to a T. They sleep with all their toys no matter how clean the room gets in a day...

Have a great Thursday!

OK so I am officially freaked out at how similar you and I are and my plight with cleaning and getting the kids to clean... sigh
I wish you the best of luck!
I thought the next time we get my oldest room cleaned and it looks how we want it to look I was taking a picture so that he could have a visual reference for next time...
My oldest bed looks like Liam's and he sleeps like that too...

Uhm, so is it bad that I think it's not THAT bad! Cough, cough...

yep - the mess in the room i had growing up puts those to shame...though i never brought food into my room.

Nothing to do with this post, but I have started card making (I know you already do), and MAN IS IT EXPENSIVE over here. I don't know what it's like in Canada - but £10 for a little rubber stamp? Ay carumba!!

I don't know how people make any money selling their cards, when you take into account the price of the supplies!

the girls are adorable;)

glad to see my kids aren't the only ones with scary rooms LOL

I'd love to tell you that it gets better but I can't. I am dogsitting for my daughter while she is out of town and OMG, I knew I was a slob and I knew she was competitive and OMG, she wins! Good luck with yours.
