I have spent 31 of my 34 years living in the province of Alberta. "Albertan" has not always been a title I have carried proudly. In my teen years I had been known to say that I was British first, Canadian second, an Edmontonian third and an Albertan not at all.
Because Alberta and I? At total ends of the political spectrum. I have been left wing since I discovered the phrase "gay rights." Alberta has had a Conservative government since before I was born. And before that it was Social Credit. Don't let the word Social fool you, that government did not lean to the left at all.
It pains me greatly to say that I live in the only province that does not protect gay people in its Human Rights legislation. Thankfully, this is superseded by the Canadian government, who protects the rights of ALL Canadians, no matter what their colour, sexuality or religion.
It annoys me to no end that it is April 23rd and there is 2 feet of snow on the ground. Honestly, what the fagoozie?
I hate the name Alberta. I really do. I know it was named after Queen Victoria's daughter and I know that Canada was a part of the British Empire, but could they not have picked a better name?
I hate the mosquitoes that invade each and every summer, if only for a few weeks.
Anyway, there are things about Alberta that I most definitely am not fond of (but there are also things I love...the mountains, the free Catholic education, the one time "aren't you lcuky you live in the richest province in Canada?" cheque for $1600) but it is time that I sit back and say:
"I AM ALBERTAN."
And why do I say this?
Because William and I have joined the ranks of all road worthy Albertans and are almost the owners of a truck.
We are buying this truck off of my brother, who is off around the world on a 3 year tour. He's currently in Mexico and hoping to get to Florida soon- Hello Thom!- Although I really wanted a mini van the truck is a necessity if William is to become a sub contractor. So many thanks to my brother, who is waiting until William's permanent residency arrives and we can go for a loan.
I leave you with one of my all time favourite Albertans, Corb Lund and the classic Alberta song "The Truck Got Stuck."

And you are now ready to live in Texas, should the whim ever come to you.
And no two feet of snow here right now, just a muggy 28 degrees celsius.
Awww...I FEEL so bad for you with all that effin snow. I'm so sick of it too and they are predicting it for the WEEKEND here! WTF????!!! I thought we were having global warming! But under all that snow it looks like a nice truck. :o) And rest assure you have an ally riding on the left wing with you in MN. Have a great day!
GOod lord, look at all that snow in April. I could never live in Alberta for that reason alone!
I guess it is going to snow here too soon, like tomorrow (I am from the north of the US) but hey, a new Ford truck! We are a Chevy family but find trucks very worth the money in the winter!
Maybe make some snow angels? No? Thowwy it's still snowing. (I secretly wish we'd get some here....but then the sun's been shining and it's been awfully pretty this week).
Hooray you and WIlliam on the truck - and nice bro!!
Yay, a truck. We have a truck. Sirdar put a bunch of tree stumps in the back on Monday so he could take it to work Tuesday when the car was in the shop. It went well, much better than the van which needs new tires and I ended up getting stuck in the snow in Walmart parking lot (photos on my Wednesday post). It is always exciting to get a new vehicle. Congrats on becoming an Albertan, I mean truck owner.
You have to have a truck to be an Albertan? Oh oh...they are gonna kick my ass out! LOL....
mmmmmm.... Corb Lund......
Snow in April? That is horrible!
Wow! Your brother is lucky! 3 years traveling! What fun!
I'm such a redneck....love this tune!
That truck is soooo much cooler than a minivan!!!!! (And I say that as a LARGE SUV owner/driver who rented a minivan while we were away and Oh My God! It was awful!!!)
LORDY! Look at the snow in April. Not that I should be shocked...
It's nice to see pics of the kids up. They've all gotten so big while I was out orbiting the earth for nearly a year.
I'll catch up I promise!
It's nice to read up on everyone...
I would be outta there the instant I realized the snow planned on sticking around until the end of April. That's just not right.
Nice truck and big congratulations! Both on the truck and becoming an Albertan :o) LOL too funny. And I might have asked for your dentist's name already but I'm old and my memory sucks so you could pass it along again pretty please.
Anytime you're ready to post, feel free... Really. No rush.
Great, now I'll be singing that all day~! It's a catchy lil song. :)
Mosquitos a few weeks a year!! Come on down to Tennessee. We have mosquitos from, oh, April, until around November and they are the size of a small child!
I too live in Edmonton, or I used to until I moved just outside to Hay Lakes...and I feel the same way. I still prefer to refer to myself as from Vancouver.
