I wasn`t going to blog about this, because I didn`t know this girl personally and I don`t really feel that it`s my place to talk about it. But this happened, literally, right outside my, and her, workplace.
Any readers from Edmonton and area would have heard about a nurse being murdered and her car set on fire. Her unit was so quiet this weekend, normally you hear a lot of laughter as they all sit at the desk charting, but there was not a smile out of a single one of them. She was a nice girl, never bitched about having to help us with patients as so many of them do. And she wore hot pink scrubs, there's not many that can get away with that, but she did.
The rumours, of course, are numerous. I had heard that she left work about a half hour early, claiming to be tired, that she had broken up with or was trying to break up with a boyfriend. What they have established is that she left through the main doors at 11 (which does not lead to staff parking, another rumour is that she was parked at the mall and you would use the main doors to get there). They say that her murder was not random, which leads me to assume that she knew her attacker. She was killed before the vehicle was set on fire, only a block from the hospital. The suspect ran out of the vehicle and headed west. Her purse was found about 6 blocks away. It is entirely possible that he ran right past my mother`s house. Scary.
Even though I didn`t know her personally, it leaves a terrible feeling. I can not even begin to imagine what her family, friends and co-workers are going through.

Too close for comfort

How vulnerable that must make you feel, if it was random after all. ((HUGS)) to you. I know the feeling. A police officer was killed just blocks from my work. Really makes you think hard.
I had heard about it on the news and then found out yesterday that one of my friends that works there knew her.....so sad.
That's truly awful. It always feels much worse when something like this hits close to home, huh. xo
Just be safe when you go to and from work, okay!
hug. its scary when the reality of the world comes so close.
That's sad and scary. If it wasn't random, that does make it seem safer for you guys though. But still so very sad.
How very sad, and having it happen to someone who works in the same place makes it even worse. My guess is that she did know her killer, lets hope they soon catch whoever it was!
That's sad, Emma. And very scary! I hope they're able to find out what happened to her so her family can get some closure. Stay safe!
that makes me so sick. after the guy murdered my sister, he set her house on fire. such a horrible thing to have happen to someone. Her poor family!!!
These kinds of things also leave a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. What a tragedy!
Very sad & Scary!
It is very sad and scary and even when you don't know a person personally, it still hits close to home when it is close to home, or work or someone you saw regularly.
That is such a scary thing to happen so close to your work or a family members home. I don't blame your for having the terrible feeling.
How tragic. I hope they catch the monster soon. More than likely, he is someone she knows, I can't remember the statistics, but most women are killed by a boyfriend, husband or ex.
I can only imagine how it would affect everyone at work though.
Having a daughter who lives in the City I follow stuff like this...probably too much. When I watched the news last night and the police officer was answering questions, my gut tells me they think her boyfriend did it. I really do hope they catch this person and put him in a cell with someone who will look after him. I can only imagine the feeling you have with working in the same building as her.
