The things she says. Oh, and a doctor's appointment.

This morning Saoirse says, all worried, "Mummy! There's a little hole in my bum!" I say "Yes, of course, that is where your poo comes out of." I wonder where she thought that particular bodily function was coming from? She then asked me where her pee came out of and I explained that there are 2 holes in her vagina, one for peeing and one where babies come from. Even though I kept it pretty basic I sometimes wonder if I say too much. And if I'm not saying too much, should I explain it better? I just don't know. You would think that having had this talk years ago with 2 other children I would have a better idea of how to go about it.

***********

Last night as I'm walking into the kitchen I say to William "Would you like a cuppa?" He says "Go on then." Saoirse says "Me too! I want one too!" I say to her "What do you want?" and she says "I don't know!"

***********

I went to the doctor's on Wednesday as she had the results of my blood tests. I am low in iron so am now on iron supplements. This somewhat explains why I am so tired all the time. I am also on anti depressants, she thinks I have a bit of post partum depression but also that I am genetically inclined towards depression. Not surprising when you come from generations of alcoholics I suppose. Funnily enough when I was looking up side effects of certain anti depressants almost all of them said "May increase thoughts of suicide." which really seems to defeat the purpose you know? I'm not suggesting every depressed person is suicidal but I'm going to assume the great majority of suicidal people are depressed.

The blood test for my thyroid came back negative. I was hoping for a positive result as I would like a reason to explain away at least a little bit of my weight gain. I go for the ultrasound on Thursday at 11, though Saoirse's playschool class has been moved to the morning to have their Easter party and her class ends at 11. So that realluy doesn't work for us. My cholestrol is not even a little bit high. 4.5 is average and I am at 4.1. The "you are a heart attack waiting to happen" speech did not take place. Apparently for a fat chick? I'm pretty freaking healthy.

Love the Saoirse stories!

Glad that the tests came back with some answers for you. Hopefully the pills help you quickly.

And congrats on the low cholesterol! That's always good news!

Sorry to hear you're healthy!? : ) Just kidding, healthy and fat is better than sick and fat I think. At least that's what I live by.

Damnit to hell for being healthy! He he he! Glad that your results are good. I hope the iron helps out with your tiredness.

Saoirse is asking about holes very early! And, I'm so glad your body is mostly functioning well. Low iron is a cause of LOTS of things & I hope taking some makes you feel 100% better.

She can see her own butthole??? Your kids are flexible.

I love your new layout! The cast of characters on the left is very enjoyable!

This is me exactly. I am overweight and each terribly a lot of the time, but my body is apparantly healthy as a horse. My dr did some equation that accounts for your weight, age, cholesterol, etc and tells me I have a less than 1% chance of having a heart attack in the next 10 years.

As fort the weight gain, which anti depressant are you on? I've gained 30 pounds since I started on Cymbalta, but I feel GREAT!!!!

I had the "hole" discussion with a two year old one time except I went into a lot more detail. By the time she was ten she had forgotten all about it - so we talked about it all over again.

I'm glad you are healthy. At least you don't have to worry about that part of the equation any longer.

Glad your healthy, low iron can really make you feel shattered so hope you feel more energetic once it is sorted.
the Saorise stories made me laugh!

I'm with Saoirse on this one...what's a "cuppa"?

Your results seem to be good! I think they just have to put that warning on anti-depressants, b/c they have the opposite effect on some people. I'm glad they exist though, b/c if not then my dad probably wouldn't be here. Sometimes those little pills are miracle workers.

Saoirse cracks me up!

Glad you're healthy. Sorry you didn't get any answers.

To go one further on what Julie said, healthy and fat is also better than thin and unhealthy. Hopefully the iron will help with the energy. Without energy it is very difficult to lose weight.

I think you told Saorise enough info and not too much. But then, I told my girls the same thing when they were that age.

Love the stories about Saorise. LOL

Your dr appt sounds like the one I went to just before I got pregnant with the twins. I had been depressed, gained weight & was hoping for a thyroid diagnosis. Instead, nope, I was just fat. :( Sucks!
Hope your meds start to help you soon. :)

Being low on iron definetly makes you tired. I know that one personally since I have chronic anemia except I can't take the regular supplements and get iron infusions instead. Being tired like that can also make you depressed though.
I found that odd when I was on antidepressants that they always said they can increase thoughts of suicide, always seemed a little odd to me.

I can't even begin to think about the hole conversation... so we'll just skip it.

Ummm... what's a cuppa? Cuz I'm thinking it's a cuppa coffee.

You sound oddly put off that you're not going to drop dead...?!

(PS - if you want to see a REAL fat chick, click my FB profile pic or the album called "me" - can't remember which - and check out one of my friends... THAT'S FAT. You are NOT.)

Good news on the thyroid - my mom's is bad so I have to have that tested regularly too. I kind of wished I had a bad one too, to blame my weight on!

We have such similar families (alcoholics, depression)...sad really. Glad we are turning out alright!

Glad to hear the good news! I hope the iron helps. Being chronically tired could lead one to depression and depression leads to weight gain for some.

But, I understand the feelings of hoping for the thyroid to be an issue.
