He's just a baby himself.

Taylor's homeroom teacher, who also teaches her religion, is 23.

Did you hear that? Twenty three! That is some young, folks. When I commented on his baby-ness (and really? he looks about 18..skinny, shaggy hair and those black glasses...very cute in a geeky sort of way) Taylor says "Well, he's going to be 24 soon."

Since 24 is a long time gone in my corner of the world, this did not reassure me. Not that I'm worried. I am sure he is a perfectly fine teacher. It's just that here is at 23- almost 24- with a proper job. At 23, I was the mother of 2 toddlers.

So other than giving birth, just what have I done with my life?

It's the same old story with me...what am I going to do when I grow up?

I know I need to go back to school. How to pay for it though? What to do? I can take a $285 medical terminology course and become a unit clerk, or I can actually go back to school and do something that will allow me to make a reasonable amount of money. I'm thinking xray tech. One of the techs at work was saying that in the next 5 years they are expecting that they will have a huge shortage. Same with nursing, which I know I could never do. (This weekend some units were actually closed to admissions because they didn't have the nurses to work the shifts...it's insane here right now.) So maybe. Possibly. God, I'd have to upgrade. My math and sciences were shite I tell ya.

Must start looking into doing something with my life. I wonder if facebook is hiring?

I had Maddie at 24 so I had 4 babies by then. I know what you mean though. I still sometimes wonder what I'm going to be when I grow up. I'm glad to be home with the kids now but I'm sure I'll have to do something when they grow up and move out ((shudder)).

Can I join your club too?

I always wanted to teach junior school children but here in Ireland you have to be able to speak and teach Irish and languages are so not my thing! I just can't decide what I can do and would enjoy doing.

My girlfriend just got her real estate license this year - and has so far grossed over $100K! She has two ridiculously active boys, 4 & 5, so it's not like she has all the time in the world... and yet... ! Needless to say, while I've been talking about getting mine for years, it's something I'm considering more and more these days...!

A lot of counties/states will pay for medical licensing programs, you should look into that for the xray tech or nursing or whatever you decide! Nursing school is truly not BAD, it's totally manageable with a baby and writing a dissertation so far (it's only 3 days a week).

You kid about Facebook, but I do think I saw that they were hiring!

Don't be afraid of going back to school. I bet you'd be surprised how well you'd do when going back as an adult.

When I grow up I'd like to be a software engineer. But likely I'll end up teaching middle school math. No more accounting for me!

Damn. When I grow up? I guess at 39 I better hurry up and get started.....

I"m 32 and still have no idea what I am going to be.

I hope to figure it out before I die.

Despite the fact that I have my Bachelor's degree in eduction, and I taught 6th grade English for three years, I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

I've given thought to taking some medical classes when I have to take classes to keep my teaching certification (I have to take 2 classes every ten years to keep it...but it doesn't matter what they are). I wouldn't mind becoming a lactation consultant one day.

Anything in the medical field is a good choice...shortages are only going to get worse. And I would be scholarships are more readily available...ask at your local tech school.

I understand the age thing. My daughter's "teacher" at day care is 19. NINETEEN!

Hey, Emma - I'm having a problem getting your link to work on my blog... I've told folks to go back to the challenge post comments and link back to you from there for Fun Monday. I don't know WHAT the problem is.

BTW: Turns out that "Old Lady Caylor" was all of 25 when I was in school. Shocked the hell out of me when at 45, my son's teachers are SO young. I don't think it gets better, either.

23... Ooh to be 23 again... And yet, I thought I was so grown up then.

Sigh.

Is he hot?

This cracks me up. I feel the same way sometimes ... especially when you look at those like 16 year olds who win gold at the olympics or whatever. It's like hmm... so I've done basically nothing with my life, eh?

23. Wow. I had a 2 year old when I was 23. Crazy.

I think you would be a valuable asset anywhere you went. I'll hire you to be my resident comic, if you could get off your butt, find your passport, and well, work for pennies.

I would say your are doing the most important job in the world even if the pay is crappy. Learning school stuff as an adult is easier than when you were in school. You could do something like real estate or home sales to get yourself worked into doing something else. I think it gives a woman the confidence that she is intelligent and able to fit into situations. I have done home sales since my oldest was a few months. I went to school and had a career, but now I am not really working in that area anyway, so it isn't always the route to take.

I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up and a huge pile of student loans that say I SHOULD.

I make pretty good money and work really freaking hard and it never seems worth it to me. I'm not changing the world...I'm not adding or contributing anything. Not really.

And when I was 23 I had two 2 newborns. And I was really, really young.

And really, really stupid.

CPA mom is so right, anything in the medical field is a really great option. It helps that the baby boomers are at the age they are too. I think you're in a great position to branch out in any direction you want with working at the hospital. And a great age. The comment about Facebook had me cracking right up LOL

I hear ya. With this Facebook thing, I get to see what many of my fellow highschool graduates have been up to over the years. Some of them have done a hell of a lot more than me! Travelling all over the world, interesting careers, etc. Me? Got married and had kids. Oh, I know that that is wonderful in its right, but...well, you know. I want to go back to school, too.

You should see if you can be one of those site monitors for Facebook - they employ people all over to do that I think.

I'm in that boat too, Emma. What in the hell do I want to be when I grow up?! No idea, none.

I was a teacher before becoming a SAHM. I'm not sure which zapped more of my energy. Oh Lord, I'm OLD!!

I understand what you mean about wondering what you've done with your life.
I'm only 21 but since I got pregnant the "where is my life going" worry has been at the forefront of my mind.
Before, I thought I could go anywhere, and do anything and now that I have my son to take into consideration the possibilities don't seem so endless.
I have two half degrees.. I wonder if I could be a Mental Health and Addictions Reporter.. lol
If you find a secret to figuring everything out.. let me know.
lol

Have to say I love the "I wonder if facebook is hiring" comment.
hehe
