So a lot has been going on that I have not posted about, but wanted to mention. Here's some random stuff from the last week or so.
*Sophie said dada tonight. She then said daddy. No mama or mummy in sight though. Yesterday she also put herself into a sitting position and I missed it, she was at my neighbour's. Though she has been sitting for about 6 weeks, it was only if you sat her down. Today she did it all day long. She will be 7 months old on Saturday. Sigh. They grow up so quickly.
*Last week Edmonton recorded it's eighth homicide of the year. It turns out that as a child I knew him. He was the son of a family friend. I don't have any clear images of him, I remember his mum and dad, his uncle Tommy and his cousin Joanne, who was much closer to my age. Because Edmonton has had so many murders over the last few years, it seems we have become sort of immune. It used to be that there would be lots of write ups on the victim, but there was hardly any mention of this man, just that he lived with his girlfriend. No mention of his 3 daughters. That's sad I think. It's sad that you invite someone into your home to stay with you and they end up shooting you in the heart. My dad was at his funeral and he said it was packed. Lots of people from the old days, it's nice to know that all those Irish and Scottish folk can still manage to get along.
*Taylor is 12 this Saturday. She is officially taller than me, and let me tell you it is pretty hard to get mad at a kid you have to look up at. (Never mind having to try and drag her into the shower, which we won't even get into.) I wonder what she'll end up at. I was once told she could be as tall as 5'11. I'm figuring 5'9", an inch taller than William.
*I never mentioned that the mall had not removed their Christmas decorations, but it was absolutely driving me mad everytime I went there. How lazy are they I wondered. It turns out a movie is being filmed there starting in April. It is about a family from Los Angeles who move to Edmonton. Ray Liotta is in it, along with Leslie Nielsen (who went to high school here) and Chris Kattan. So obviously I will be stalking the mall this spring, 'cause Ray Liotta is some hot. If you happen to see a movie called 'Christmas in Wonderland' sometime after November, remember that it was filmed literally 5 minutes away from my house. Exciting stuff.
*Saoirse is sleeping in her own bed! Sort of. She falls asleep in our bed, when I go up I carry her into her room and at some point during the night she wakes up and comes back in. I'm okay with that, at least I'm getting a couple of hours kick free.

My kids all said dada first. They saw him the least and I was always saying mama to them to try to get them to say that, apparently dada was more exciting.
I found out a childhood friend of mine was murdered a few years back. It felt really strange, I wasn't sure how to feel.
And 5' 9" is about the hight the boys are supposed to "hopefully" reach. My girls predicted hight? 4'11" for Kenz and 5' for Maddie. I just have to face it they are short.
That is cool about the movie they film here in oregon a lot and its always a big thing.
Oh and my girls are 6 and 8 and if you have read recent blogs you'll know they still don't sleep in their own beds all night.
Hi Emma, tnx for stopping by my blog and for your lovely comments. Reading your blog cracked me up, having kids makes you relate to all mothers! my 12yr old boy is officially taller than me too and with a 6ft 7inch nephew who knows where it will end lol. Obviously got plenty of irish connections with your lovely names, my kids are Taidgh (tim) and Lorcan (lawrence)which they won't meet too many of here in Oz. Cheers, Carmel
*raising hand* Casey said Dada first too. That's so UNFAIR!
I can't believe she's sitting up and how fast they grow.
I am DYING to hear the 12 yr old shower dragging story?? Come on...
Casey is the opposite, she goes to bed in hers and then wakes up and wants to sleep in ours. Right now I don't care, we're on day 4 with no bottle...THANK THE LORD!
Oh here's what rocks: BOTH my kids said, "UNCLE" as their first words. Both of them! On the SAME DAY!
My stupid brother...
Jai said "mama" first.... I was lucky. He was really young, too. Something like 3 months. (I know- bad mom for not knowing exactly when he said his first word.) but that is the only thing he can say and now he's like 7 1/2 months. Everytime we try to get him to say "dada", he laughs. it is so funny!
my little K said mumme, she is the first, all the other kids said Dada. That is cool about the movie being filmed near your house.
My two sons are over 6 feet tall! Both my husband and I have tall genes in our family but we are the shortest.
Sophie is SPEAKING????!!!!
