Emma = eejit Part 356

Today, for the last day of Spring Break, we went to the waterpark. I took a lot of pictures of Saoirse and Sophie in the Little Dolphin pool. Saoirse on the slide, Sophie sitting in the water, Saoirse and Sophie together in their matching tankinis.

And then, and then...sob... my camera bag was flung into the water. WITH MY CAMERA IN IT.

Immediately I took the camera out of the bag. Drip, drip, drip. Took out the battery and the memory card, my friend wrapped them in her towel to dry them off. There was water in the viewfinder. Put battery back in, turn camera on, nothing but a blank screen. Bugger.

Try again and again. Blank screen. Blank screen. Blank screen. Try again. Wait a second...is that a little flicker of orange light? Twas but it is gone. Nothing.

Get home, try again. Little flicker and then nothing. Put memory card into portable printer. 156 pictures and 5 videos are downloading. Yay! I'm safe. I could care less about the camera but 156 pictures of my kids? Sophie's bottom teeth, Saoirse cuddling with her dad, Sophie walking holding William's hands, Taylor's birthday, Liam's birthday...I could die. 10 minutes later the screen says to remove the device. Nothing saved.

Try again. It reads forever, but nothing is saved.

Cry, cry, cry.

Emma you poor thing. All our photo's are stored on the computer and I should back them up in case something happened.

All is not lost!! We had a similar thing happen once when I tried to download some photos using a card reader and something went wrong and we lost them all. Hubby found a program on the net that somehow saves lost images from memory cards. I will ask him and get back to you about it!

Oh no Emma! I hope Sam is right and they can be saved...I would lose it if I lost pictures.

omg I am SO sorry to hear this - it makes the pit of my stomach hurt just thinking about it! I do hope you manage to retrieve them somehow! Keep us posted!

Lost pics would be devastating. Our son threw away a folder full of pics from our desktop once...just after they had been downloaded and deleted off the camera...but before I had backed them up. It felt like losing a member of the family!

sam is right- the same thing happened to us. all of a sudden about 700 pictures were missing from our memory card. The hubby found an auto recovery program and got them all back. video, too!

also, try a camera store. they see issues like this all the time, I'm sure. they could probably help.

Poor Emma... I truly know what you are going through. Our desktop crashed and, of course, most of my pictures had not been backed up on CD. I hope you can recover them.

Emma, have a look here http://www.datarescue.com/ this is where we got our software from, it's called Photo Rescue. I'm sure we actually purchased it but there is a free trial you can download. It did work for us, it's worth a try anyway. I hope it helps (((hugs))).

Good luck with getting the images back. I would be devastated. I have hundreds of pictures on the computer that are just asking to be lost. I'm really sorry for you but your story has served as a wake up call for me - they are all going on cd tonight.

Yikes, sorry about that. Ma ran her cell phone through the washer once. All those phone numbers.

I read your other post about email. If you still need any help with HTML or Blogger, I'd be happy to offer it. ^_^

Oh sweetie, I could cry for you! I'm so sorry that happened. Maybe after it completely dries out, the memory card will work again. Try going to a camera shop and they may be able to give you some advice.

I lost 4 years of photos when my hard drive crashed. I thought they were backed up externally, but no... Not baby pictures, but of age 9-13. Gee, that isn't a loss, is it? So, so sorry. It's painful.

Oh, how devastating! I hope you are able to somehow save them. Call some photo labs and ask their suggestions.

I'm so paranoid about that happening to me. I download photos immediately after taking them, then back them up by copying them into my Yahoo photo albums, and on Flickr, and I back up on CD often--I guess I go a little overboard! I can't bear to lose those photos, though.

I sure hope you can save yours.

Emma, how devastating! Definitely try Sam's tip, if not, surely a good camera store can help you!

Is it a Sony? I dropped my Sony Ericsson phone just once, not even from that great a distance, and now the camera on it is broken. While Sony looks awesome, the shit just don't work!

Emma, did you try that program I suggested?
I hope everything is ok :o)
