Today was our first official day of summer holidays. Although Taylor finished on Wednesday at noon, poor Liam was at school for the entire day on Thurday. I went to pick him up and had great feedback from his teacher and one of the T.A's on the clipboards I had made for them. I must post the pictures, as I am very lazy about crafting so it's always a shock when I finish a project so I had to take a picture.
Taylor's summer holiday started the way it does every year since Grade 1 (with the exception of last year, when she was in England) with a party at her friend Connor's. They have a new pool this year, which Saoirse loved. She also loved the slip and slide, which she would walk along and fall down every few feet. Slippy for a reason I suppose. The kids had a great time and the other mums and I had a good gossip. As you do of course.
Today was a good day...Liam's friend Josh slept over last night and they had a water fight with our new Super Soakers (2 for $9.99 at Canadian Tire...you can't go wrong!) and Taylor and a few of her friends had a lemonade stand. They sold everything but lemonade, there was gatorade and ice tea as well as some odd juice, they were even selling water for 10 cents. Some guy gave them $5 for a glass of water and told them to keep the change, a couple bought 2 drinks and 2 cupcakes for $1 and let them keep the change from $5 and some fella walking by just gave them a toonie. People can be pretty nice sometimes. Much better than 2 years ago when a teenager stole $5 off of Taylor and our neighbour. So it was a good day as the kids were outside for most of it, Taylor even took Saoirse out for a bit in the hopes that she would increase their sales with her very cuteness. I got a bit done today, a good 6 boxes packed in Taylor's room, along with a black bag of garbage (where the hell does it all come from?) but still plenty more to do on this long weekend.
Tonight we went swimming with Candy and her 3. We spent the first hour in the kiddie pool where Saoirse held onto a noodle and kicked her legs like a pro. I really need to put her in lessons...she loves the water. We went into the big pool where she loved the little slide, everytime I would swim away from it, she'd go "side, side" so back we'd go. She also learned how to say "pool" on Wednesday. The swim was supposed to go until 9.30 but they called everyone out at 8.50 because apparently some girl had fallen or been pushed and hit her head. Perhaps I'm a bit hard, but I don't quite understand why they had to clear the pool. When the fire and ambulance arrived it just meant they had to get through the crowd of people at the entrance. But whatever. It was still a very good time.
It's Canada Day tomorrow. We are not going to do anything though. Liam is going over to Josh's for a barbeque and sleepover as well as going downtown to watch the fireworks. Taylor may have a sleepover. Normally we would go down to the leg* to wade in the fountains and pools, but this year we have to pack.
Oh, and watch England hopefully beat Portugal. But I'm not holding out alot of hope.
*leg= Legislative building, where the government of Alberta is based. I briefly forgot that no one who reads this is from Edmonton. The pic's small, but sure if you're dying to see it you can click on it and enlarge it. I think. Anyway, all the front is fountains and funky-ish pools of water, and is absolutely packed during the summer. The steps are a very popular spot for wedding photos and grad photos, which is where the German bastard** and I had my grad photos done.
**German bastard- you would have had to have been reading me last July to read mention of him. First major boyfriend, went with him for 3 years, cheated on me more than times than I can mention. Example: the last time we slept together, he had already slept with TWO girls that day. Probably haven't thought about him since that long ago post, until today when Germany beat Argentina. I was going for Germany, only because they were a better looking team (oh, yes, I am such a girl!) and I thought 'hmmm...the German bastard wasn't so cute.' I didn't actually think German bastard of course, I thought his name, but it is unusual enough that if he happened to do a search on his own name (and believe me he's the type) then he could end up here. Plus it was 15 years ago and I am over it. Though it may not appear as such!
