Prosperity Cheques

There is finally a plus to being an Albertan. Last week, after months of talking about them our prosperity cheques arrived. Alberta had a huge surplus thanks to oil and gas revenues and Albertans benefited to the tune of $1.3 billion dollars. Every man, woman and child who was a resident of Alberta as of September 1 received $400. It was great to receive, especially after Christmas. Mine almost completely went to bills. Sad, but true.

Prosperity checks? Is that like a tax cut? Does all of Canada do it or just Alberta? Can I sign up for that?

Are these too many questions?

It was a one time only deal for Albertans. Did you know that every resident of Alaska gets a cheque every year? And it is bigger than our $400. If I recall correctly, they were saying that 2005 would be the smallest yet, at a number I can't remember but I think it was over $1000.

Emma,

I've suggested our government do something similar. At the moment we just give all our spare tax euros to filthy rich hospital consultants.
