Dazed... Yesterday I was making a salad and instead of using my regular old plastic tupperware I decided to go for the fancy glass bowl, which is in a box and has probably been used maybe 5 times since 1994. It's on the top shelf of my cupboard and as I am short I had a hard time reaching it. I finally managed to inch it along far enough when KABOOM a marble cheese plate (which has never been used, the fecking thing) landed on the top of my head. I have a huge bump, which hurts to touch and I have been nursing a headache for approximately 29 hours.
Confused... For the last few months Taylor has been mentioning that she is not that keen on meat. First it was hotdogs and hamburgers, tonight chicken joined her list. Here's where my confusion comes in- the child doesn't like vegetables. Unless they are carrots and raw only, thanks very much. So what do I do? What do I serve her? William is really worried about her, he says she doesn't eat enough. He believes she is on the verge of an eating disorder. She never has breakfast and packs god knows what for lunch. I have said I would have no problem making her vegetarian meals, if she would actually eat the veggies. My brother has been a vegetarian for about 10 or so years, every time he comes he makes these amazing dishes that she won't even try. So what to do?
Don Cherry... Oh God, Don Cherry. How does a nice Canadian girl explain to Americans that you are, for some unknown reason, a Canadian icon? You are loud and brash and anti European, which bothers me due to the fact that I was actually born on that continent. You dress like a 1920s mobster. And yet, you are so well loved. it's strange to me. Usually I disagree with what you have to say. Tonight though I was in full agreement with what you said while sitting with the NBC sportscasters about the NHL and NBC dumbing down the game and being wrong about getting rid of fighting. I know American TV dollars are huge, but true American hockey fans are not stupid. Fighting is a part of the game, it always has been. And shock of all shocks, that Brett Hull and I agreed on this matter too. But it doesn't mean that I'm suddenly going to like him.

I really had to laugh about your dazed. I've had days like that and I have dishes in boxes that have rarely been used. I did get rid of my marble cheese plate though and now I'm thinking that was a good move. Apparently they are quite a hazard.
re dazed: OUCH!! That had to hurt....I would have cried, cause seriously I'm a baby like that..
re confused: I have no idea???? That would be hard.
re Don Cherry: I'm American, have no idea who he is.....you are right though any true American hockey fan (which I'am) and I consider the fights a huge part of the game....gee sometimes thats why I watch......
Damn girl, ouch! May I suggest a hockey helmet next time while pulling down old glass bowls :o) As for your daughter I can't even think what to do. I hope everything is ok with her. And Don Cherry. I'm shocked to read he is so well loved. No one I know loves him that's for sure. The sad thing is he knows his stuff. The stats he rattles off and the stories he tells is amazing sometimes. But I can't stand to look or hear him rant. Hope the head feels better soon :o)
Yowza! A marble plate!? Hope your head is feeling better!
What's the saying? 'I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out?'
The problem is most Americans don't watch hockey, which is why it needs to be dumbed down to attract new viewers, and to match the general population! (Sorry fellow contrymen and women, but it's true!)
True hockey fans know better.
I like the fighting in hockey... just my opinion- but I think it makes it more interesting
hope your head feels better!!
Ouchie that sounds damn sore, are you sure you're not concussed?
Taylors eating - I was the same at her age, wouldn't eat anything, kind of enjoyed the control over my body and the worry it caused - weird but that's what teenage years are for. I'd explain to her tht she could be doing damage that will cause problems later in life. Does she want kids? She could do irreversible damage to her organs and fuck that up royally. She could develop IBS - like I did - and be at the mercy of her bowels for the rest of her life - no fun that one! Her teeth - good gods her teeth could really suffer and her skin, appeal to her vanity. Is she looking for attention? Could you or William pack her lucnh for her and check it when she gets home, I know she could throw it away but maybe the concern - even if she fights it - is what she wants/needs?
Sorry for the assvice but I really did a number on myself with bad eating habits as a teen and in my 20s. Hope she cops on quicker than I did.
I know nothing about hockey or fighting, I think I prefer to remain ignorant of such things.
Let's start with Don Cherry. I could never stand him, but it was nice to see him last night on the NBC commentary. It was like an old slice of home, you know? Although, since I haven't seen him in almost 7 years, he looked so OLD to me! He looked like he'd aged about 20 years.
About Taylor, I don't know what to say about that... You can't force her to eat, because that will make it worse. Maybe you could take interest in her new eating habits and tell her that you'd love to research recipes on food network.com or maybe some vegetarian food sites that the two of you can prepare together? That way it gives you two some good bonding time, it makes her an active participant in dinner time, so that she should be more likely to want to eat it and who knows, maybe it'll expand your entire family's recipe repertoire, which is never a bad thing!
Will she eat pasta? I know that the naked chef, Jamie Oliver has some great recipes for pasta with a bunch of veggies blended into the sauce as a way to get a bunch of veggies into your kids. And that's a nice cheap way to get nutrition into everyone in the family!
As far as your head, dude! OUCH! That sounds so horribly painful. I can't imagine! Maybe you should have someone check you out during your next shift, just to make sure? I'm surprised it didn't knock you out!
OUCH!!! I hope the headache is gone now!!
About Taylor...that's a hard one. Of all the things I've read about Taylor she seems like a pretty typical teenage girl. Moody, hormonal and such. But, with eating disorders and way too skinny stars out there, you should definitely keep a close eye out. I like Catwoman's suggestion. Does she eat fish? Fish is good for you and a lot of people that don't like meat still eat fish.
Try to get Taylor cooking with you. Take her too a bookstore and let her choose a cookbook that appeals to her. Then perhaps let her choose some fun recipes to 'try cooking'. Don't mention anything about actually eating the food ----------- just see if she will try the food of her own accord.
Children don't usually starve themselves that young. Surely she is eating something? It might suck (depending on what kinda food you keep in the house) - but I'd get rid of all the junk foods so they don't end up being the only thing she consumes.
Good luck with this, Emma. It is important. And I really hope you'll find a way to help gently encourage her to eat.
xoxo
OUCH! I once had a gallon of milk fall on my head. (Don't ask!) While it's not as hard as a marble cheese board I know how much it hurt - so I can only imagine the pain you're feeling.
What about veggie burgers? Maybe you can convince her that they are not meat but will give her protein and the strength she needs. They also make veggie nuggets (Morningstar is the brand here) that are delicious.
OH man Emma... OUCH on the head! I sure hope your headache goes away.. and geez I would have no idea what to feed her either!! That would be so tough!
Poor you hope your head recovers soon; with the meals you could set her a project so that she list food she likes you list things she should eat and try and then from this work out some menus that give her a balanced diet - raw carrots I love but you do need to be careful not to overdo them ; if she would extend the range of raw veg that would actually be good; I spent a few months eating only raw food and I felt so healthy- but you do need variety so that you are not deficient in anything (i'm rambling and don't know if this makes sense!); and sorry don't know Don Cherry!!
1920's GAY mobster. No mobster would be caught dead wearing plaid that loud.
How about breakfast smoothies for taylor? Fruit, milk, some fruit or plain yogurt, blender, voila. If you want it to taste more summery add some ice cubes. If she doesn't eat a lot then it'll go down easy, and it's super nutritious. If you want to give her some extra energy, use bananas.
Hope the sore head (and throat) are feeling better.
There seem to be lots of good suggestions for you to try out with Taylor and getting her to eat a bit more.
I love all your scrapbooking stuff. I found a shop here in France which sells scrapbooking stuff so was able to have a good nosey!
OUCH!!
She'll get over it soon. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it... that may be what she wants.
Hope your head's feeling better today.
I'm afraid I can't add anything to what everyone else has said re. Taylor's eating.
My head hurts thinking about your head...hope it's better...
Ouch on the marble head whack. Dang.
Does Taylor eat cheese? I don't know what you can do to control her intake...but I understand that worry.
