Stupid, stupid girl

I ended my last post with the comment of 'Bloody Conservatives' and I was so right to say that. For, yes, the girl at my MPs office totally fucked up. Instead of providing us with the paperwork for residency while in Canada she gave us the forms for applying from outside of Canada. Even though I had clearly told her we would be applying once he got back to Canada. Not so bright really.

My printer doesn't work (nothing does on this computer) so I printed off the medical form at my neighbour's. William had the medical today and $270 later at least his medical form is in the mail. I then had to call Immigration Canada and for the first time ever got a helpful person. What is going on with the government these days? As the actual government becomes more inept, it appears that government agencies are approving. I told him we had received the wrong forms and he said he would send the correct ones. He then shocked me by saying "Would he like to work in 7 or 8 months?"
Yes, says I, who wouldn't want to legally work after all? In my 3 years of talking to CIC no one has ever said that he may be allowed to work in so little time, that we can save ourselves at least 2 months by sending in a work visa request at the same time as the permanent residency application. I wanted to kiss that man. I wish I had paid attention to his name so that I could email his bosses and say how fantastic he was. Normally, they are a bit on the arsehole side, these people who seem to have untold power over your future.

Anyway, it looks as though things are picking up. I even put a bookshelf back together today. Amazing. Now I just have to get that box of Irish non fiction up the stairs.

Canada Immigration in "being nice" shocker.

You must have gotten one of the new people they hired and obviously he has not come under the influence of all the cranky fuckers who normally answer the phone.

Hmmm...perhaps this is true. Or maybe, just maybe, someone has said to them that their attitudes had better improve or they will all be out of a job. Too hopeful?

Hate to take the other side, but is this really the conservatives' fault, or just bureaucracy in general?

Point made. I'll apologize now.
