That was some World Cup final yesterday. It wasn't very exciting but that could be because I was very tired. And the highlight? The one thing that will be remembered years from now? Zinedine Zidane headbutting the Italian player.
I don't know what the Italian said to Zidane, apparently he was hurling racial insults. I am not sure what sort of racial insults an Italian would use on a Frenchman but I assume there must be one or two.
In a World Cup game however, in extra time with 10 minutes to go and a huge chance of the game being decided in a shootout with a 100% chance that you will be called upon to score for your team, you should have the ability to walk away from whatever it is that is said.
He should have been able to say "I fucked your wife last night and she was the best/worst fuck ever." and Zidane should have been able to say "Rightio...I know she's great/shite/whatever and we will deal with this after the game." and walk away.
I'm quite sure there was no reference to Mrs. Zidane, and there is nothing else worse that can be said.
So instead Zidane ends up with a red card, and is out of the game; unable to even come up to receive the silver medal France ended up with. I think they would have won had he not been sent off, but I could be wrong. After all, Barthez wasn't much good when it came to the shootout.
In good news from the world of soccer, Wayne Rooney has been suspened for 2 international matches. Happy days that I will not have to watch his ugly, whingy mug.

One way to end your career and look like a total fuck

The one good thing that has come out of Zidanes headbutt is that it has highlighted the atrocious level of racism in Italian football. He apparently made a racial slur referring to Zidanes arab background and his Mother, Zidanes Mother was apparently taken to hospital that morning so it was a raw nerve but I agree he should have been able to say anything and Zidane been professional enough to shrug it off, but that's not what happened. I feel bad for Zidane, it's a shutty way to end a glorious career.
At least now more people will remember him for that than for his name. Wait, that's not a good thing . . .
