I don't have it. And usually I would say it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that I am super shy, or that I am no good at small talk. But on Thursday it matters.
For on Thursday I am meeting a fellow blogger, Joy from A Spot of T. Now for me this is the equivalent of Alissa or Catwoman meeting Dooce (who I don't read so can't link to. Not because I can't find out the link, but because I couldn't be arsed too. If you want to know where she is they both have her in their blogroll.) Because I looooove Joy. She is funny, but she also writes some very moving posts. She is a great mum.
I am very nervous meeting people for the first time. I feel physically ill. What will we talk about? Will she like me? What if she hates me?
Yeah, I feel like a teenager going on her first date.
I'm sure it will be fine. We are just meeting for a cup of coffee (or tea, as the case may be since a sip of coffee has never passed these lips) so surely I can find some things in my not so witty repertoire to discuss for 45 minutes or so.
But still...what if she doesn't like me?

she will love you!!!
I'm so jealous! I wish I were meeting you and Joy!
I would be nervous too. I've never met anyone in person that I first met via the net.
BTW, if you write anything at all, ever, you're a writer. I hope you participate in my GWP. Thanks for stopping by!
silly you. of course she'll like you! but i understand your nervousness. we put ourselves out there in these blogs, and then when we come face to face with someone who reads them, we feel like we have to measure up.
but you will.
still, you might want to bring flowers....
Just talk about your latest poll. Be yourself. ;)
Have fun!
I'm jealous of Joy meeting you!
Enjoy the coffee or tea and the chat!
Just enjoy I'm sure the conversation will flow after all you have one big thing in common 'blogging'!!
Of course she'll like you. She already does or you wouldn't be meeting. Just because she hasn't laid eyes on you doesn't mean she doesn't know you!
I've been reading you for a short while, but I feel like I know you a bit already. But I'm a long way from Canada so you don't have to worry! And I don't like coffee or tea. I'm weird, I know.
After the first few minutes, it's a piece of cake - all the nervousness goes away. I had the pleasure of meeting CPA Mom in June.
I get that way too. I would be really nervous to meet you even though I feel like I know you what with the sex talk and crafts and whatnot.
LOL! You'll be fine. Enjoy!
How exciting! Have fun :o)
I think if I had a 'date' with Dooce, I would more than likely vomit from the nerves. Hopefully it wouldn't land on her shoes.
How's that for encouragement?
Oh that sounds like fun (though I would be just as nervous as you!). I've never met any bloggy friends in person and I'd love to. Hope all goes well.
I've been there and done that. First when I met Lawyer Mama, then when I met Amy from A Family Story, Kelly from Mrs. CPA and Beth from First of Six. Let me tell you, everything went fine...once we got over the jitters from meeting perfect strangers who know intimate details of our lives...
What I wouldn't give to meet you and Joy both.
I'm coming off my little break and your blog is the first blog I want to get caught up on. Does this tell you something? :o) I just wrote an entry and put a blurb about us meeting at the end of the post.
I don't know what a Dooce is, but you are way too kind Emma. My cheeks are a bit hot reading this. Damn you woman! And a little secret for you. I already like you. I'll guarantee meeting you in person won't change a damn thing on my end.
So let's stay calm, throw up only once before meeting and enjoy our drink of choice. Too bad we aren't the type of women to drink hard liquor at noon huh? Ok 'I' am but that's a whole other story.
See you tomorrow Emma. And don't even think of letting those nerves get the better of you and backing out or making an excuse unless your house is burning or your children need you. I'll hunt you down if I have too you know :o)
Ooh - have fun girls. And if ever one of you gets over to England --- lemmeeeee know!:)
How fun to meet in person.
I'm not the best at speaking, either. It's good in my mind, but doesn't come out well. I'm envious of people who can talk with an easy, graceful flow.
I hope you have a great time :)
Of course she'll like you - what's not to like?
I'm jealous too.
You and Joy will have a great time! I'm sure the nerves will go away immediately. I met a fellow EBayer and we actually made it through an entire lunch! Have fun!! I wish I was close enough to meet you both....but NY is a
l o n g ways away!
Ooooh, that's exciting! Two of my favorite bloggers are meeting! Let us know how it goes...which I'm sure will be great!
I bet it will really interesting for you both. Good luck with it. Also, I'd imagine it would be hard not to like you!
how could she not like you! =) meeting a fellow blogger, oooooooh, how cool!
Emma! You're crazy! How could she NOT like you???
