A computer free day. Sort of.

I spend too much time on the computer. No denying it at all. I sacrifice housework in order to read all your blogs. So it's totally your fault that my house is a mess. Anyway, on Friday (before yet another big fight this weekend) I decided to go computer free until my house was lovely and clean. The main floor anyway, who goes upstairs? And we won't even talk about the basement, where my fear of giant spiders keeps me from making an effort to clean, sort and organize.

For your enjoyment I present you with "A Day in the Life of Emma, sans computer (mostly)."

7am. Alarm goes off. Girls (who moved into our bed in the middle of the night) awake. Force myself out of bed. Not a pretty sight, as there is a lot of rolling and heaving due to my newly bad, bad back- as compared to the old bad back. Do morning like stuff. Wake up Liam. Open Taylor's door to wake her. See state of supposed to be cleaned room. Cancel her planned sleepover for evening.

7.15. Do a load of laundry. Fold what is in dryer. Go upstairs to put away just folded clothes along with 2 baskets of laundry that were left prior to my going away 8 days ago. Apparently, am only one in family of 6 with laundry putting away abilities.

7.45. Give girls breakfast, make cinnamon toast and tea for self. Skim through newspaper.

8.30. Have wasted 45 minutes! (How, not sure as Edmonton Sun is little news and all car ads.) Do another load of laundry, fold another load.

9am. Do dishes.

9.15. Sophie says "Play me!" It's the first time I've heard that and how can one resist? We put together a wooden puzzle.

9.30. More laundry! Wash, dry, fold.

9.45. Sweep kitchen, bath and hallway. Prepare to mop (first proper one in ages, usually just cheat and use the swifter) by moving furniture and other stuff. Mop.

10.30. Clean out girls shoe basket and vacuum area rugs from kitchen and hall while waiting for floors to dry.

10.45 Clean bathfroom and scrub out kitchen garbage can. Question why people in family put garbage into can when there is no garbage bag. Why can they not get garbage bags out from under sink first?

11am. Talk on phone with friend Tanya. Multi task and put away the girls laundry and Liam's laundry.

11.30. Play "I got you" with Sophie. This consists of me grabbing her and say "I've got you!" and her saying back "No! I got you!" Have cuddle with Saoirse and read a few books.

Noon. Make lunch for William and girls. Visit with William for 20 minutes that he is home. Must have ate myself. Hmmm...can't remember!

12.30. More laundry. Wash, fold, dry, put away, does it never end?

1pm- Put Sophie to bed in my room. Talk to friend Jen while cleaning girls room.

1.30. Saoirse asleep on livingroom floor, cover with blanket. Do lunch dishes and dishes found in Liam and Taylor's rooms. Clean livingroom, minus vacuuming.

2pm. Am satisified with day's effort. Turn on computer. Twitter, facebook, a bit of messing around. Hear sound of running water. WTH? Look over at Saoirse who is peeing on floor in sleep. Has no panties on. Why? Dry her off, move to sofa, wonder how this doesn't waken her, scrub rug.

3pm. Get dressed. Shutup. I can stay in my jammies all day if I fancy it. Sophie wakes up while I am in room. "Mummy? Hi Mummy!" Come downstairs, Sophie sits with my while having a drink and we watch my beloved Eli Stone (the season finale which was taped while I was away.)

3.30. Taylor home. Calmly discuss state of bedroom. Talking to myself, I decide.

4.10. Leave for massive book sale at the Air Museusm.

4.40. Browsing books. Have all Irish novels I come across. Bugger. Desperate for new reading material.

5.30 In super long line up. Take some pictures, peek at some of my books.

6-ish. Pay $66.15 for 57 books! Wait for Shelley who is somewhere in the crowd. Start reading The Dress Lodger and realize have read before. Trade for Erma Bombeck.

6.20. Go for dinner.

7.40 Stop at scrapbooking store. Buy paper and supplies for 5 layouts.

8.30 Arrive home. Sort through books. Read girls a Dora book. Sophie throws up. William cleans inital mess up, and I scrub away at the leftover stain.

9pm. William puts Sophie to bed. Saoirse and I read books.

9.30 Go on computer. Saoirse falls down stairs. Not in bed, as she slept until almost 5pm) Saoirse falls down in livingroom. William takes her to bed.

10pm. On computer.

11pm. Do dishes for the third time that day. Clean livingroom and watch the last 2 episodes of Survivor.

1am. Go to bed.

There you have it. An almost computer free day in my life. Odd that the next day we had a big fight in which my love of the computer was mentioned. Hmmm. There's no pleasing some people. Will admit that he is partially right, but not completely.

I felt guilty as i read this entry so stopped half way through to go and put on laundry. I am with you being the only one putting laundry away and also how can they not notice there is no plastic bag in the bloody trash can???

I have decided that the more time I spend outside of my house the less time I have to spend cleaning it. Works part of the time, the rest of the time new dragons show up on my door step.

That seems like a long and tiring day to me~ mind I didn't go to bed last night until midnight. I have a good excuse not to clean at the moment (loft having insulation replaced tomorrow) then no excuses and even more cleaning to do~ in my next life I'm coming back either as a man or a cosseted pet!

That sounds like a long day Emma I don't know how you do it. I fail to tidy with no children to look after! Blogs are so addictive it's like being in a space/time hole. Last night I started reading at 6pm and suddenly Tom said "are we going to eat tonight" and it was 7.40 - ahhh!
Maybe we need to start a blogger's anonymous club (on line of course!)

Where'd you go for dinner?

You eat cinnamon toast too! I LOVE cinnamon toast. Although I probably make it waaaaaay different then you, I just love the stuff. And your day sounds really full Emma. Especially having two little ones at home. I say if you can get all that done AND still play on the computer a bit, you are super woman....and you certainly deserve a little down time.

My father-in-law used to bug the mil about how much time she spent on the computer. Then he'd plop his butt down in front of the tv for hours on end. I asked him what the difference was between him watching tv for hours on end or her spending time on her computer. It's not like they watch tv together. Both in separate rooms. He never said anything when I brought it to his attention. But he also never said anything to her again.

Man, you got a TON done in one day... I totally think W. needs to give you a break, because it sounds to me like you did more in a day than I do in an entire weekend.

laundry seems to multiply doesn't it? except socks, they disappear. just a few months back socks were on sale so I bought my son 18 pairs. this morning there were 2 pairs in his drawer...

Laundry does seem endless. You sure got a lot done in a day. I didn't make it to the book sale. I had to meet my sister in SG at 5. It is probably for the better anyway.

I cheat and use the Swiffer all the time.

Not sure I could spend a day with no computer. I'd be forced to do too much housework as well.

I am guilty of spending too much time...on the net myself.

However, I spend a great deal of time doing housework too...so that's how I rationalize it myself.

Reading that wore ME out!

So many points you made- esp about the trash bags, being the only one who puts away the laundry, teenages who don't listen so you are talking to yourself & lastly- hubby who cleans up puke, but not good enough... UGH!

How you find time to read with all of those kids is beyond me! I can hardly read the channel listing on the tv and I only have one.

And we have to fix those buttons on your blog. You never did it, chickie! If you want me to do it send me your info.

Ok, off to Hobby Lobby now. Just wanted you to know I'm still around.;)

Wow! You got loads done.

I'd get a lot more done without the internet/computer, but I feel lost without being able to pop online and check blogs/the news/twitter/facebook/email....hmmm...that's a long list...

Looks like a productive day to me!

Mamma Schmoo's comment made me chuckle!

The darn house is a constant stress to me, too. And worry when people are invited over.
